Since founding her eponymous design firm in 2003, Sara Story has forged a reputation for imparting to all of her projects an ineffable style she can truly call her own. Drawing inspiration from her extensive travels, an active interest in contemporary art and fashion, and a rigorous lifestyle, Sara wields a keen eye to exact her aesthetic vision. The legacy of Sara Story Design was published in The Art of Home by Rizzoli in September 2023, documenting the first two decades of her firm’s work. In 2024, Sara was named to Architectural Digest’s coveted AD100 list, an accolade celebrating the top names in design today.
Sara Story Design continues to work on residential and commercial projects worldwide and maintains several successful product collaborations, including wallpaper and hardware. Sara earned a B.F.A. from the University of San Diego and holds a degree in Interior Architecture from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
In 2023, Sara introduced an artist residency program based in Center Point, Texas, as a means to further the town’s revitalization program by drawing in rigorous art and culture, including educational programs, to the community. Sara is a supporter and former Board Member of Ballroom Marfa, a contemporary art space in Marfa, Texas, with a focus on allowing freedom of artistic expression through culturally impactful art. In 2024 Sara was elected to the Board of Trustees of the New Museum and participates in the organization’s Artemis Council. Sara is a founding member of Proyecto Dracula, an international arts organization based in Todos Santos, Mexico and an active member of the Design Leadership Network She is also a two-time marathon finisher and recently climbed the tallest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.
